What we do at our factory
How we do it
In the year 2000, the mattress industry changed forever when Simmons brand invented the one-sided mattress. They marketed that this ‘innovation’ would eliminate the effort of flipping your bed periodically. However they didn’t invent a more durable non-flip spring, they simply stopped padding the other side of the mattress. Shortly after, other big-box retailers saw an opportunity to increase their margins by producing their own one-sided mattresses with half the material and half the life, causing customers to return in half the time. We saw through this gimmick and chose to put our customer’s satisfaction and value first.
Why is a flippable mattress better? Besides getting more for your dollar and creating less unnecessary waste, being able to flip and rotate your mattress helps the padding settle evenly and last even longer. While the bottom side is not being slept on, gravity and air flow help the paddings rest against a flat surface to relieve it from your body contours.
Here at Square Deal Mattress, we believe everyone deserves the lasting value and comfort of a two-sided bed, even when flipping the mattress becomes difficult. We offer a flipping service to help all our local customers get the most out of their mattress.
Square Deal’s Mattress Flipping Service
How to Flip your Mattress
Flipping your mattress is a two-person task and should be done with caution. Attempting to flip it alone is at your own risk, as having two people helps prevent injury and potential damage to the coil construction.
To ensure proper even wear and validation of your warranty, follow the underlined flipping and rotation schedule:
- After sleeping on your mattress for 2 weeks rotate the mattress head to foot.
- Every 2 weeks thereafter alternate between flipping the mattress over and rotating end to end for 6 months.
- After that period of time, alternate between flipping the mattress over and rotating end to end monthly for the remaining life of the mattress.
While there is no mattress police, we can tell if a mattress has been flipped and rotated regularly. Your mattress will take care of you for years to come if you flip and rotate your mattress on a regular basis.
The box spring provides the foundation for your bed. While it doesn’t require rotation as frequently as your mattress, we ask if it is done once a year, rotating only from head to foot.
Square Deal will not be held liable for any injury to you or your property from flipping or rotating your mattress set and frame support.

The mattress industry is increasingly focusing on sustainability to reduce its environmental impact. Here are some key ways the industry is working towards becoming more sustainable:
1. Eco-Friendly Materials:
- Organic and Natural Materials: Many companies are using organic cotton, natural latex, and other eco-friendly materials that are free from harmful chemicals and pesticides.
- Recycled Materials: Some mattresses incorporate recycled materials, such as recycled steel for springs or recycled polyester for fabric.
2. Reduced Chemical Use:
- Non-Toxic Fire Retardants: Manufacturers are opting for natural fire retardants like wool instead of synthetic chemicals.
- Low-VOC Foams: Companies are using low or no-VOC (volatile organic compounds) foams, which emit fewer harmful gases.
3. Recycling and Circular Economy:
- Mattress Recycling Programs: Many companies have established recycling programs to divert old mattresses from landfills. These programs often repurpose materials like foam, springs, and fabric.
- Product Take-Back Programs: Some manufacturers offer take-back services to ensure old mattresses are disposed of or recycled properly.
4. Sustainable Manufacturing Processes:
- Energy Efficiency: Companies are investing in energy-efficient manufacturing processes and using renewable energy sources to reduce their carbon footprint.
- Waste Reduction: Manufacturers are implementing practices to minimize waste during production, such as optimizing material use and recycling production scraps.
5. Certifications and Standards:
- Certifications: Many mattress companies seek certifications from organizations like OEKO-TEX, Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), or CertiPUR-US to verify their commitment to sustainability and non-toxic materials.
- Sustainability Standards: Companies are adhering to sustainability standards that focus on environmental and social responsibility throughout their supply chains.
6. Innovative Designs:
- Modular Designs: Some companies offer modular mattresses that can be easily repaired or updated, extending the lifespan of the product and reducing waste.
- Durability Focus: By designing for durability and longevity, manufacturers reduce the frequency of replacements, which helps decrease overall consumption and waste.
7. Consumer Education:
- Transparency: Companies are providing detailed information about the materials used, their environmental impact, and recycling options, allowing consumers to make informed choices.
- Awareness Campaigns: Manufacturers are promoting awareness about sustainability in the mattress industry and encouraging consumers to participate in recycling programs.
These efforts reflect a growing trend towards environmental responsibility and innovation in the mattress industry, helping to create a more sustainable future.
